sanshin iconThe Maui Ryukyu Culture Group is a non-profit organization deeply rooted in the Maui community and dedicated to the preservation and perpetuation of the Ryukyu isseis’ (1st generation immigrants) cultural legacy. The Group meets on the 3rd and 4th Saturdays of the month to learn sanshin, fwanso (flute), samba, shishimai (lion dancing), usudeku (small two-sided drum), eisa, and other art and cultural activities. MRCG also sponsors lectures and classes on dance, history, and culture. Although many of the classes and activities are based at the Pa`ia Rinzai Zen Mission, MRCG does not have religious affiliations and welcomes people of all backgrounds and denominations.

To preserve the memory of our Ryukyu immigrants through education and involvement in the history, language, culture, and performing arts of Ryukyu.

Mission
To educate ourselves and others of the Ryukyu people and to preserve and protect the language, drama, literature, artifacts, music, dance, history, and culture.
